It all started in Santa Monica, California. Eight screenwriters and director were selected to represent Muslims at an Emmy Award winning studio.
Four of the participants were female.
After three days of intense networking, we realized how much we had to share through our varied experiences and viewpoints. We were different ages and we all came from different backgrounds. And despite being Muslim, our religious views were just as diverse.
But we shared three things:
In January 2019, we took our WhatsApp group to Facebook and started a Facebook discussion group.
And today, we have The Muslim Women’s Art Society. This is a place where Muslim women in North America can showcase their art, through our online gallery. It’s a place where we post online resources and articles. But most importantly, it’s a no-judgement zone.
We all have different paths to enlightenment. Art is the one value we share.
Let’s join together and use or common values to shape the narrative, so that our daughters know that we were part of that story.
